About Linda
Early Life: Roots of Hard Work and Community
Linda Moore’s journey began on North 17th Street, where her roots in hard work and community were planted early. As a child, she helped in her grandfather’s grocery store, where she learned the value of money, hard work, and the importance of helping others. Her grandfather, Rich Wiemelt, exemplified these values by treating customers with kindness and understanding, showing young Linda that sometimes people just need a hand up.
This philosophy of paying it forward has been central to Linda’s life. Today, she gives back to the Quincy community through extensive volunteer work, supporting organizations such as Housing Solutions Quincy, Quincy University, and numerous local arts and civic groups. Linda’s passion for service is reflected in her deep involvement, from chairing committees to volunteering hands-on in projects like St. Francis’ Blanket Project.

“Grandpa treated everyone equally, but I remember an elderly gentleman who came in to get groceries… [Grandpa] explained that sometimes people need a little help and that this man was our neighbor, our friend, and always paid when he could, he just needed a hand up.“
College and Career: From Passion to Professional Success
A standout valedictorian at Payson Seymour High School, Linda’s passion for sports and events blossomed at Quincy University, leading to a thriving career in sports management. Her time at the Mart Heinen Holiday Basketball Tournament ignited her interest in sports media relations, eventually taking her from a role in college admissions to major sporting events like the 1996 Atlanta Olympics.

After her success with the Olympics, Linda joined ESPN, quickly rising through the ranks to become Director of Business Operations for ESPN Original Entertainment. She led a team in turning the ESPY Awards into a profitable event, raising $1 million for The V Foundation for Cancer Research.

“Being asked by ESPN President George Bodenheimer to lead the ESPY Awards was a turning point in my career. We transformed it from a financial loss to a profitable, charitable event.”
Returning Home: A New Chapter of Service in Quincy
Linda’s leadership extended to global task forces and system implementations for ESPN and Disney, solidifying her reputation as a change agent and strategic thinker. Despite her success, family brought her back to Quincy, where she began a new chapter as City Treasurer in 2017.
As Treasurer, Linda applied her skills in fiscal management and leadership to streamline processes, eliminate bad debt, and maximize investment income for the city. She also introduced digital platforms for tax and utility payments, improving efficiency and reducing costs.
“Every dollar earned through investments is a dollar we don’t need from taxes,” she says, demonstrating her commitment to fiscal responsibility.

Stepping Forward: Announcing the Run for Mayor
In 2024, after serving the community for years and successfully resolving key financial challenges, Linda announced her candidacy for Mayor, ready to bring her leadership, experience, and dedication to Quincy’s future.
Linda Moore’s story is one of resilience, hard work, and a deep commitment to her community—a journey that started at her grandfather’s grocery store and has grown into a lifelong passion for service, leadership, and giving back.
